Foundation Apprenticeships Why you should consider doing one ? Presented by: Kevin Lamont Perth College UHI www.perth.uhi.ac.uk Perth College is a registered Scottish charity, number SC021209.

Introduction Kevin Lamont Perth College UHI Foundation Apprenticeship Co-ordinator Why am I here? What do I know? How can I help you decide if this is a good idea?

What is a Foundation Apprenticeship ? Study over two years starting in fifth year with National 5s and Highers. The difference is, you spend time away from school, at college and with an employer. Level 6 qualification (same as Highers). Each qualification is the equivalent of two or three Highers. Offers UCAS points if you want to progress to University. It’s real, relevant and you get practical work experience.

Why you should consider a FA? What’s in it for you (1) Hands on learning in College and in workplace. Practical and academic (Level 6). Introduces you to the workplace whilst still at school. Wide variety of subjects and learning options. Work with subject specialists at College and with industry experts.

Why you should consider a FA? What’s in it for you (2) Provides you with transferrable skills. Offers wider career choices. Excellent pathway to either work, modern apprenticeships, HNC/D and University. Good for your CV
