What is the Function of the circulatory system? What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? What is the Function of the circulatory system? What are the main components?

What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? All will be able to: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most should be able to: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some could be able to: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function.

Write the date and title and underline. Draw the flow diagram on a whole page. Around “BLOOD” on your flow diagram, write the parts of the blood and their function. Underneath “ARTERIES,” “VEINS” and “CAPILLARIES”, write down their function. Complete the table comparing veins and arteries. In your books explain: 1. Why arteries have thicker walls. Why veins have valves. Why capillaries have thin walls.

Heart Arteries Arterioles Capillaries Venules Veins What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? Heart Arteries Arterioles Capillaries Venules Veins All: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. Arteries Carry blood away from the heart; divide to form smaller arterioles Veins Carry blood towards the heart; small veins are called venules Capillaries Link arterioles and venules together and are small, microscopic vessels.

Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? All: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. Arteries Blood in arteries travels away from the heart, and towards organs. It travels at high pressure and is usually oxygenated. The artery has thick muscular walls to withstand the high pressure.

Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? All: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. Veins Veins take blood to the heart and away from organs. Blood travels at low pressure so veins have valves to prevent blood going backwards. The blood inside veins is usually deoxygenated.

Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? All: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. Capillaries Capillaries are microscopic vessels that connect arterioles to venules. They are only 1 cell thick and allow substances to be exchanged between blood and body cells. The liquid part of the blood is called plasma and contains many dissolved substances (solutes) essential for cell metabolism.

Carry blood away from the heart. Return blood to the heart What are the main components of our circulatory system and their function? All: Recall the three main types of blood vessel and some functions of the blood. Most: Describe the function of each blood vessel and part of the blood. Some: Link the structure of blood vessels to their function. Arteries Veins Carry blood away from the heart. Return blood to the heart Have thicker walls. Have a wider lumen. Blood spurts when cut due to higher pressure. Blood moves more slowly due to lower pressure. Have valves. Blood is bright red. Blood contains less O2.
