KNOW TIME VOCABULARY Es el mediodía- It is noon. Es la medianoche. It is midnight.

KNOW THAT SER IS USED TO TELL TIME Only 2 forms of ser are used. ES or SON Es is used only when talking about 1 o’clock and all its minutes: Es la una. It is 1 o’clock. Es la una y diez. It is 1:10 Es la una y media. It is 1:30.

SON is used for all other times. Son las cinco. It is 5 o’clock. Son las nueve y veinticinco. It is 9:25. Son las once y cincuenta. It is 11:50

OTHER WAYS OF EXPRESSING TIME When we go past the half hour (thirty) you can express time in two ways. Instead of saying 5:50, we can say/write 10 to 6. Same in Spanish. To express this, you must use the word menos instead of the word y. Then go to the next hour and subtract that many minutes from next hour. 5:50 can be written/spoken two ways> Son las cinco y cincuenta or Son las seis menos diez 3:40> Son las tres y cuarenta or Son las cuatro menos veinte.
