Sneak Peek TK and Kindergarten Leitch School Tammy

Today we will be telling you some helpful information as you begin the journey of TK and Kindergarten at Leitch School. If you have any specific questions, you may ask your child’s teacher after this brief presentation or you can send them an email. Katy

A.M. General Information School Hours AM 8:10-11:30 Students come into the classroom at 8:10 and will be dismissed from the classroom at 11:30. We ask all parents to stay behind the blue gates during arrival times and the blue gates (K1, K2, K7) or yellow gates (K3, K4, K5) at dismissal times. There is an 8:05 recess before school if you wish to drop your child off early. Please note there is no supervision before 8:05. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CHILD UNLESS YOU SEE A TEACHER ON THE PLAYGROUND. It is important that we know who is picking up the children. If someone else is going to pick up your child, they must be on the emergency card. Shirley

P.M. General Information School Hours PM 11:40-3:00 Students come into the classroom at 11:40 and will be dismissed from the classroom at 3:00. For K1, K2, K7 families, we ask that parents stay behind the blue gates near the multiuse room during arrival and dismissal time. For K3, K4, K5 families, we ask that parents stay behind the yellow gates (near Room 14) during arrival times and the blue gate (near Room K5) at dismissal times. DO NOT allow your child to come into the Kindergarten playground until their teacher comes out to greet them at 11:40. It is important that we know who is picking up the children. If someone else is going to pick up your child, they must be on the emergency card. When we go on field trips, the afternoon class will be attending during the morning schedule. On Kindergarten early release days - the afternoon students will follow the AM procedures for arrival and dismissal! (8:10 - 11:30am) Laura

Attendance Daily attendance is important. If your child is absent for any reason, please call the office and let them know the reason for the absence (510-657-6100) or you can email our attendance clerk at sguenther@fremont. k12.ca.us. It is also helpful to let your child’s teacher know of the absence too. Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. School starts promptly at 8:10 and 11:40. If your child is late for school, please take them to the office for a tardy slip and then walk your child to the classroom. If your child has to leave early, you must sign them out in the office before coming to the classroom. Kami

Leitch Folder The Leitch folder is used to help maintain communication between home and school. It goes home every Thursday. Please look over all the papers in the Leitch Folder and keep the papers at home. Return the folder with your child on Friday. The Leitch folder may contain newsletters from the classroom and school, as well as field trip permission slips, completed class work and any other paperwork from the classroom or school. Use the folder to send back any paperwork that the office or teacher needs returned (i.e. field trip forms, picture day money, etc.). Mary

Personal Belongings Please label all jackets, sweaters, hats, and backpacks with your child’s name. It is much easier to locate the owner if their name is on it. Snacks – students should bring a light, nutritious, easy to open snack every day (i.e. carrot sticks, cheese, yogurt, fruit slices, etc.) The children only have 5 to 10 minutes to eat snack. Shoes - We strongly recommend your child wear closed-toe shoes to school. NO flip flops! Jen Remind PM parents to have lunch before school. Even if your child gets snack at daycare, please send a snack. They are always hungry! No sharing snacks due to allergies.

Birthdays You may bring a special treat/gift for your child’s birthday, but please let us know ahead of time. We strongly encourage that you make goody bags that can be passed out to classmates instead of food. Many students have food restrictions and we would not like anyone to feel left out. The treat/gift must be store-bought and easy to serve. Teachers reserve the right to not allow outside food products in the classroom due to extreme allergy restrictions. Bringing a gift/treat is voluntary. Teachers will celebrate your child’s birthday in class regardless if there is a treat/gift. TK students may only bring goody bags this year. TK Amanda

Homework Homework packets will be sent home weekly. The packets are designed to reinforce or extend what students are learning in school. Reading aloud or being read to is part of their homework. Students may receive books to practice reading at home. Janet

Volunteers Volunteers are a very important part of our program. If you are coming to volunteer, please check in at the office before coming to the classroom. Due to District policy, no younger siblings are allowed when volunteering. Volunteer information will be discussed at Back to School Night. Jessica

Library Students will get to visit the library once a week. If you do not return your book, you will not be able to check out a new book. Ms. Becky is our librarian. Please direct all library questions to her at rschaffer@fremont.k12.ca.us Mandi Book fair- sept. 6-14

General School Rules School rules are as follows: Show respect Make good decisions Solve problems We refer to the rules often and encourage the children with praise. If a student is having difficulty following rules, that student gets a verbal warning and a reminder of how to follow the rule or a way to solve the problem. Martha

Parent - Teacher Conferences Conferences will be scheduled in November. Report cards come home in November, March, and June. Lesli

Donations The Kindergarten teachers are doing a fundraiser of $3,000 per class at the beginning of the year. TK is fundraising $2,000. This money will be used for classroom supplies, activities, and for field trips that enhance our curriculum. We encourage you to check to see if your company offers a matching donation program. We accept school donations online. We have a link on the Leitch School website (this is the preferred method). Michelle

How can you help and support your child? Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats breakfast or lunch before coming to school. Be sure your child gets to school on time. Spend at least 10-15 minutes each night helping your child with homework including reading. Talk with your child daily about school. Teach your child how to play board games (Chutes and Ladder, Candyland, Sorry, Uno, etc.) Read to your child every night. Spend time with your child jumping rope, playing ball, and having fun! Krisie
