Ways for Good Practice in PE Policy relevance, form and timely delivery of outcomes ‘who’ (which individuals and organisations) may be effective in taking-up potential outcomes or policy recommendations? ‘Who’ to engage in a participatory process a stakeholder mapping and analysis is recommended to balance the different perspectives, rather than favour one particular group, which would introduce a strong bias in the engagement process.

Ways for Good Practice in PE Methodological soundness The choice of method depends on the objective(s), the time and resources available, and the desired outcomes, and who will be ultimately using these outcomes. Integration and analysis of PE outcomes (Voices) Depending on the engagement methods used and the number of participants, the outcomes may require an intensive data integration and analysis phase.

Ways for Good Practice in PE Feedback to participants and the public A well-planned public engagement process will provide feedback mechanism and communication strategy that ensures transparency and informs the participants of how their involvement was effectively used. The choice of which type of feedback will be provided to whom, should be built-in the public engagement design phase, and not simply tagged on at the end of a project.

Examples of PE in R&I There are many more! Fishermen & CFS implementation at regional seas level GAP2 Citizen consultation for waste R&I policy definition: VOICES Citizen observatories for community-based environental monitoring: WeSenseit, OMNISCIENTIS, MARsite, MED-SUV, COBWEB, CITCLOPS, CITI-SENSE EU Network of Living Labs Mobilisation & Mutual Learning projects & Social Platforms: PERARES, PLACES, SEISMIC, MARLISCO, SPREAD, SOCIALPOLIS, RESPONDER Research on PE, citizen science & collective awareness: ENGAGE2020, PE2020, SOCIENTIZE, CAPS

SwafS 1-2016: Science Shops Different types of interfaces exist between researchers and society, one of which are the ‘Science Shops’: organisations created as mediators between citizen groups (trade unions, pressure groups, non-profit organisations, social groups, environmentalists, consumers, residents association etc.) and research institutions (universities, independent research facilities).

SwafS 1-2016: Science Shops Expected Impact: …….. growth and capacity building of science shops for socially responsible community-based research and citizen science. …….. means through which students, researchers and teaching staff may transfer their knowledge and skills for the benefit of their community, …… from real-life cases and interactions. ……………… connect with relevant international initiatives so as to ensure mutual learning across borders.

SwafS 5-2017: New Constellations Expected Impact: The proposed action is expected to enable diversification of constellations of actors and stakeholders in Research and Innovation processes, a spread of good practices among them, and a transformation in their governance framework.

SwafS 5-2017: Engaging Industry …. RRI 'champions' in industrial sectors …. from products market driven to values driven … inclusiveness … learning process This action aims at the development of new approaches to innovation (be they technical, social or otherwise) in industrial context.

SwafS 5-2017: RRI diagnosis in H2020 Expected Impact 'Storylines' or 'narratives' developed in relation to the various parts of Horizon 2020 will allow RRI to be an integral part of a more coherent Work Programme in Horizon 2020. They will impact as well on the relevant stakeholder communities as well as in the European Research Area and beyond.

SwafS 13-2017: Co-creation ………. Expected Impact This action aims at developing a better understanding of co-creation processes and outcomes under various cultural, societal and regulatory backgrounds. It will allow better-targeted policy support in the future.

Thank you!
