Reviews CMS Constitution “Before launching the construction of major parts of any subproject or sub- system, or engaging in major related expenditures, the Technical Coordinator, with the agreement of the relevant subproject manager, organizes reviews to confirm the soundness and completeness of the retained design… “An EDR (Engineering Design Review) or ESR (Electronic Systems Review) is thus held prior to the start of construction of a large item or important procurement “A PRR (Procurement Readiness Review) may be held in anticipation of an EDR or an ESR, to authorize significant pre-production or pre-procurement, or where parts of the system are well understood and factorize from the overall design Production Readiness Reviews, Manufacturing Progress Reviews and Installation Readiness Reviews are follow-ups to the EDR ECR (Engineering Change Review) used for changes to existing systems

Reviews Additional types of review needed DISCUSSION Approval and follow-up of R&D projects targeting CMS upgrades All approved R&D should be tagged to a project or a working group And have a deliverable – maybe just a report Endorsement of need for new projects (physics program or other) Has to consider the scope of the project, scale of resources and implications across CMS Project Reviews These might take different forms/stages: Review of technical scope (for example: what will be in the TDR) Review of Schedule, resources, milestones and decision points Progress reviews Present review process continues Document Reviews (for TP, TDR…) Internal editorial group, UPO, MB…. LHCC EDR/ECR/PRR process as previous slide

Reviews Up-coming Production Readiness Reviews for LS1 projects (follow-up to EDR) HF was Jan 12, HO will be in February, Muon projects…? Project Review for Pixel TDR project Technical scope (what will be in the TDR) ~ early March? Schedule, resources, milestones and decision points ~ April? Project Review for HCAL TDR project Technical scope (what will be in the TDR) ~ April? For L1-Trig TDR goal is to have the review process defined by May upgrade week Reviews called by UG/TC in conjunction with the PMs Will make a Twiki to keep track of past and future reviews for all projects
