P-3 Professional Learning Teams and Shared Professional Development

PLT Development Each of the 18 Superintendents across Umatilla, Morrow, and Union Counties were asked to submit early elementary teachers and early childhood providers they would like to have participate. If a district did not submit names then I personally contacted principals, teachers, and providers that I wanted involved. CCR&R recommended child care providers that would fit teams.

Goals for PLTs in 2014-15 We hoped to establish alignment in best practices and alignment in regards to any curriculum that was possible. We wanted to provide learning and teaching opportunities that were impactful to the large group and individual PLTs. We hoped to establish a system that would make it easy for participants to share resources and ideas among all PLT members. We wanted to create an initiative that would entice teachers and providers to participate even if funding was not renewed.

Initial Activities Teachers and providers first met in October during two full day professional development opportunities for the large group. Then for two more days in March. Monthly meetings PLT Observations Attendance at state P-3 Conference Attended Blue Mountain Early Learning Hub meetings to share PLT experience Purchase of alignment materials Dropbox

Compare and Contrast 2014-2015 2015-2016 7 Active PLTs 30 PLT Members 14 Communities 11 School Districts 8 Early Childhood Agencies 1 Parent Café 6 Active PLTs 60 PLT Members 12 Communities 11 School Districts 7 Early Childhood Agencies 9 Parent Cafes

2015-2016 PLT Activities PLTs meet every other month except Union County has chosen to meet monthly 2 day shared professional development on a self-regulation program called Conscious Discipline PLT observations offered to all active PLT members Summit 11 attendance reimbursed Teaching resources from Summit 11 and Conscious Discipline materials purchased to promote alignment. 9 School Readiness Parent Cafes Vroom Parent Tip Cards and Kindergarten Readiness Pamphlets distributed. Dropbox

Lessons Learned I began this initiative by emailing out all of the resources and materials that were shared at each PLT. About halfway through the school year I created a DropBox account and gave all PLT members access. They uploaded and downloaded resources that they wanted to share or use. The shared professional development has been a very meaningful chance for providers and K-3 teachers to network and align best practices.
