How Do I Revise?

Revision method - Cyclic revision Learning outcomes - By the end of this tutorial you will be able to: ALL: Describe how to use cyclic revision as a useful revision method. MOST: Identify key questions in revision text that you need answered. SOME: Find answers to your questions to improve your revision.

Step 1 Scan Briefly look at the heading and the final summary of the chapter or set of notes to give you an overview of the topic. Prime Numbers (resource 1) 2 minutes to do this.

Step 2 Query Create a question to answer For example: Write down the first 15 prime numbers Or Find all the prime numbers between 100 and 110.

Step 3 Read Read through the chapter on prime numbers (resource 2) until you can answer the questions.

Step 4 Write It Down Work from memory, but take a look at the book if you really need to. This is how I do this bit……. Write down the headings Note any key words or phrases with examples Use your own words where possible Be brief

Step 5 Repeat Stages 2, 3 & 4 With all of the remaining sections of the crib sheet.

Step 6 Test Yourself Look at the overall layout of you notes and then test yourself by covering up points, recalling and checking – repeat.

Cyclic Revision Quick scan Come up with a question that you want answering and write it down Focused reading to find the answer to your question Write down the answer Repeat by creating different questions on the text.
