Written Report Written Reports will be done IN CLASS after the Science Fair *This will be a large component of your child’s Science grade.

Grading Science Fair Project grades will be a big component of your child’s overall Science grade. Participation in 5th grade is mandatory. Students will be graded on the process and the product. The rubric that we use to grade is available on the PS 11 Science Fair website

Rubric Students will be graded on a rubric that emphasizes the following components: Originality Testable Question Hypothesis Procedures and Organization Analysis Evaluation/Conclusion Display Board Use of Scientific Method

The Rubric is in the packet on the PS 11 Chelsea Science Fair website!

Generating Ideas

Generating Ideas Students should think about ways to extend the work that they have been doing in Science with pendulums and building straw structures, capacity and pH. Science Buddies, Science Project Resource Page: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair- projects/project_guide_index.shtml Mrs. Griffith has bookmarked some favorite projects on Science Buddies. You can log-in to see them Login: MrsGriffith11 Password: sciencefair Go to “my account” and view favorites

Logistics The majority of work will be done IN CLASS so materials from home need to be able to be brought to school. Students are encouraged to work in groups of 2-3 students. They must work with students from their science class. It is the student’s responsibility to acquire all of the materials needed for their project. There are materials in the lab for students to use, but they must check with teachers in order to confirm availability.
