OBJECTS IN GLASS LEARN TO MAKE AT CHOCHOMA STUDIOS AED 1800 per student

ACTIVITY 1 : MAKE A DISH Cutting glass in patterns —> Fusing molten glass in kiln —> Making a mould using clay model (or use readymade options) —> Slumping the object in kiln —> Grinding finished object

ACTIVITY 2 : MAKE A COASTER Cutting float glass squares —> UV lamination of glass —> Making a sandblasting mask on film —> Sandblasting two layers of image on glass —> Grinding / Bevelling coaster.

ACTIVITY 3 : MAKE A GLASS FLOWER OR BEAD Learn to melt glass at the end of a Oxy-LPG flame —> Shape glass into petals, leaves or spheres —> Assemble the parts into a flower or bead

PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE OF WORKSHOP Day 1 : 15 students cutting glass in pattern and set up in kiln, rotation of 2 students per hour at torch to make bead/ flower. Day 2 : kiln fuse cycle and anneal, make clay and slump mould, Day 3 : Empty kiln, clean glass, set up for slump cycle, rotation between sandblast pattern cutting, sandblasting glass and UV glue and bevelling glass, Day 4 : Slumping kiln check and anneal, continue working, lecture on glass as material and its history and techniques. Day 5 : Unload slumped object, grinding and finishing, Note : Activity 2 is listed as a contingency. It will be skipped if students need more time on activity 1 and 3.

WORKSHOP OUTCOMES Understanding of glass as a material A bowl or similar item by fusing and slumping glass A coaster by sandblasting and bevelling glass (opt.) A glass flower or bead from flame working glass
