Government and Democracy Rise of Democratic Ideals

Quickwrite Democracy, meaning “rule of the people,” is a system of government created through the consent of the people. This form of government, traced back to ancient Greece, gives value to the individual and promotes citizen participation in both government and society. Today, democracy allows people to enjoy certain rights and responsibilities. Give two examples on something you would miss if democracy was taken from our society. How would your life be different?

Democratic Ideals The road towards democracy was and is still not easy. Even today our society struggles to deliver a perfect democracy. Although there are some limitations to our freedom, our society uses the following ideas as a foundation to the concept of democracy: Rule of Law Code of Law Value of the Individual Consent of the Governed Citizen Participation
