Assessment & Progress Profile Trialing the use of learning trackers for students to use to record learning outcomes for individual components of each topic.

Assessment Profile Each Topic will have a summative test (approx. 50 marks). There will be opportunity for reflection and target setting

Assessment Profile Practical Activity Group (PAG). Students must complete a sequence of 8 practical activities to demonstrate practical skills and develop scientific methodology. These will form the main component of teacher feedback… using forms similar to that above.

How to support learning. Take an active interest. Take some time to read a summary of course content. Focus on a growth mind-set… regularly asking “what have you learned today?” “What did you find difficult today?” “How did you work out the difficult tasks today?”…. celebrate the effort involved in overcoming difficulty NOT just getting it right! Try to provide access to popular scientific journals. “Teach me” to deepen their understanding encourage your son to teach you what they have learned. Encourage use of media …. “Make a 3 minute mini movie on L6 from the tracker”. Check progress on Kerboodle… establish study time regardless of homework. Help check there is evidence of progress against student targets.
