Aquatic Ecosystems Determining factors:
Aquatic Biomes Characterized by depth, temperature, and chemicals (salt and oxygen) dissolved in the water Two types: Freshwater and Marine.
Aquatic Biomes Freshwater Freshwater – Ponds & Lakes – Streams & Rivers – Wetlands MarineOceans Coral Reefs Estuaries.
Flowing-Water Ecosystems Rivers, streams, creeks Plenty of dissolved oxygen Turtles and beavers make home down stream.
Aquatic Ecosystems. 1.What are the aquatic ecosystems on Earth? 2. Freshwater 3. low concentrations of salt % of water on Earth 3. Rivers and Streams.

AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS. Freshwater Freshwater –Characterized by abiotic factors how quickly water moves how quickly water moves amount of sunlight amount.
Aquatic Biomes Categorized by depth, salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen Freshwater : streams, rivers, lakes and wetlands Marine: estuaries, intertidal.
Wet lands. Standing water ecosystem Lakes, ponds, puddles H2O circulates within themself Has O2 and nutrients.

Review Ch. 13 Sec Why is it so important that elements cycle through ecosystems? Ch. 14 Sec Explain the difference between primary and secondary.
I CAN: DESCRIBE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TWO TYPES OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS: FRESHWATER & MARINE.
Aquatic Ecosystems. Aquatic Life Zones There are three categories of marine life based on where plants and animals have adapted to live. Plankton, organisms.
Aquatic Biomes Chapter 7. Aquatic Ecosystems  Characteristics of aquatic ecosystems –Salinity –Temperature –Sunlight –Oxygen –Nutrients.
Aquatic Biomes Chapter 10 Section 1. An aquatic habitat is one in which the organisms live in or on water. Aquatic biomes and their ecosystems are scattered.
Freshwater Biomes. A biome that includes wetlands, streams, rivers, ponds and lakes Water has a low salt concentration.
The Biome Challenge Mission  T ogether we will answer each question. For every right response you will receive the amount of points stated in the answer.
BIOMES PICTURES Fill the following slides with pictures to help you visualize the different kinds of biomes, and so you can study for the Biomes Picture.
Biomes Main Points.
Aquatic Ecosystems Freshwater ecosystems – lakes, rivers, wetlands (marshes & swamps) Marine ecosystems – coastal marshes, estuaries, coral reefs, ocean.
FRESHWATER and ESTUARY BIOMES. Chapter 20 Stream and River Ecosystems The water in brooks, streams, and rivers flows from melting snow, rain or a spring.
Relationships within Ecosystems
Aquatic Habitats Approx. 75% of Earth’s surface is water! This is the aquatic biome. Marine Habitats Saline (salt water) Oceans and Seas (35ppt.) Estuaries.
Ecosystems 5.L.2 Understand the interdependence of plants and animals with their ecosystems. 5.L.2.1Compare the characteristics of several common ecosystems,

Aquatic Biome I Moira San Juan. Marine Oceans Coral Reefs Estuaries
Aquatic Life Zones. Marine Biomes Coastal Zone Nearest to the shoreline Relatively warm, nutrient rich, shallow. Ample sunlight. Most productive marine.
Biomes. Big Idea: The characteristics of any given biome is determined by the latitude of where that biome is located The characteristics of any given.
WATER BIOMES. Aquatic Ecosystems are grouped instead by: –Water salinity –Depth –If the water is moving or standing.

Presentation transcript:

Marine Biome Oceans, coral reefs, salt marshes. Contain salt water Marine algae and phytoplankton supply much of the world's oxygen and also take in a large amount of carbon dioxide.

Fresh Water Any water that is less than 1% salt is fresh water. Fresh water biomes include lakes, ponds, streams, rivers and wetlands.

Estuaries Estuaries are where rivers meet the sea and salt and fresh water mix. Ex: Hudson River. Estuaries contain many species that travel or migrate to complete different parts of their life cycle.
