Capitalization

Directions: Clean sheet of paper, head page “Capitalization Rules, Notes, and Examples”. Take notes from each slide by writing:(can use pens, highlighters, etc.) Rule Number and Rule in title of that slide 1 example sentence from each slide. Capitalization Test will be next week using these rules in context. Bellwork Quizzes will be next week to assess your knowledge of using these rules. Notes will be taken up at the end of class for a grade.

Rule #1: First Word of a Sentence Write the rule #, the rule and at least one example sentence for each. My mom had to go to the grocery store, so I had to watch my little sister. No one wanted to come to school after spring break.

Rule #15:Names of Buildings and Other Structures The White House is where the president lives when in office. The Golden Gate Bridge is located San Francisco and is very popular.

Rule #16: Names of Monuments, Memorials, and Awards One of the most popular tourist attractions is the Statue of Liberty. The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor Abraham Lincoln.

Rule #17: Names of Religions and Their Followers, Holy Days and Celebrations, Sacred Writings, and Specific Deities Write your own example sentence using 3 capitalization examples in the sentence.

Rule #18: Names of Planets, Stars, Constellations, and Other Heavenly Bodies The North Star was used to navigate boats in the ocean. We live on Earth, the only planet with life.
