Setting Goals

Essential Questions Why is it important to have goals? How do I set my goals? How can I achieve my goals?

Types of Goals Goals- things you hope to achieve or accomplish Short term goals- Immediate, right away Long term goals- plan to reach sometime in the future.

Why set goals? Gain control of your life Focus your energy Shape your life in a positive way Build your self esteem Improve your health

What happens without goals?

How do you select your goals? What are your needs / wants? What do you have interest in? What do you do well? What are your values?

Balancing conflicting goals Place goals in order of importance. Consider consequences of each. Consider time limits. Consider values. Decide what to do. Make an action plan.

Make an action plan Keep goals realistic. Use seven step process.
