Myths about social and emotional development of gifted A 5 question quiz to dispel common myths.

True or False… Gifted Students are always self confident.

False Gifted students tend to be self conscious or have a lack of self esteem due to feeling different o being less confident interacting socially.

True or False…. Gifted students are always at the top of the class

False Gifted students may hold back due to perfectionism fears or become bored and this may lead to behavior problems or underachievement

True o False…. Gifted Students can are always bossy

False Their cognitive ability lends itself to a higher degree of moral development. They tend to have a need to follow directions or rules. This can be perceived as bossiness by many but it is not intended by the individual.

True or False…. Gifted Students do not have any other disabilities or disorders.

False Gifted students can be “twice exceptional” which means that they may be advanced in one area but have difficulties in others. They may also have “over excitabilities” that mimic ADHD, anxiety, depression, or even bipolar disorder.

True of False… Giftedness can be misdiagnosed

True Due to the myths and misconceptions many people have about giftedness students can be misdiagnosed or even not diagnosed at all. Therefore creating a lack of recognition. Author J.S. Peterson stated in an article from The Gifted Child Quarterly, that an estimated 20% of our prison population is gifted!
