SECTION 2: FAMILIARITY

Discovery Questions The next set of slides focus on the types of questions you should ask to qualify a customer, as well as the types of responses you should listen for.

DISCOVERY QUESTION #1 How is ELA being taught in your school/district? What kinds of reading materials do your teachers use? Start by asking how ELA is taught in the school or district; is it highly teacher directed, student centric or a combination of both? Do teachers follow a balanced literacy approach, and if so what does that look like? Also ask whether students are reading from an anthology, or exploring authentic text?

DISCOVERY QUESTION #2 Have your teachers been trained for Common Core readiness? Do your teachers feel that they have the tools to effectively teach and meet all of the Common Core standards? Because ReadyGEN delivers the Common Core standards in a familiar balanced literacy approach, you will want to find out whether teachers have been trained for Common Core readiness. You will also want to find out whether they feel as if they have the tools to effectively teach and meet all of the Common Core standards.

DISCOVERY QUESTION #3 Are your teachers prepared for Next Generation assessments? With the onsite of PARCC and Smarter Balanced, you will want to find out teachers’ level of preparedness around Next Gen assessments.

DISCOVERY QUESTION #4 What are your technology requirements? Realize is device agnostic, which means that ReadyGEN content can be accessed anytime on any device. However, it’s still important to have a sense of a school or district’s digital infrastructure.

DISCOVERY QUESTION #5 How much are you looking to spend per student? Because ReadyGEN is priced slightly higher than comparable literacy programs, this last Discovery Question may be the most important. How much is your customer looking to spend?

Elevator Tweets

ELEVATOR TWEET #1 ReadyGEN equips all teachers and students with the tools necessary to meet Common Core expectations. Built to meet Common Core expectations.

ELEVATOR TWEET #2 In ReadyGEN, students read like detectives and write like reporters. The benefits of text Sets.

ELEVATOR TWEET #3 ReadyGEN links assessment to instruction, so you can teach thoughtfully and responsively. Assessment for responsive teaching.

Marketecture The next slides will provide insight into how ReadyGEN will be marketed for the upcoming school year.

SAMPAK Sneak Peek Here’s a sneak peek at what our SAMPAK packaging will look like for Back-to-School. If you recall from Section 1, our SAMPAK will offer a full review of the program. The three “ready” statements (ready to learn, ready to teach, and ready to soar) are displayed prominently on the packaging to show HOW ReadyGEN elevates students and teachers.

Story Structure Library for Every Student Path to Common Core Success Support for all Learners Assessment for Responsive Teaching Anytime, Anywhere Access In a nutshell, the ReadyGEN story consists of five key elements. The program puts a library in the hand of every student It puts students and teachers on the Path to Common Core success ensuring that all expectations are met; It provides support for all types of learners – from ELLs to struggling readers to advanced students. Next Gen assessments allow for responsive teaching And lastly, ReadyGEN content can be accessed anytime, anywhere on any device.

Key Clients While ReadyGEN is still new to the market, these next slides showcase our key clients to date.

New York City Public Schools Leadership, Empowerment, and Accountability Meet Common Core expectations Core Curriculum built in partnership with NYC Realize rollout in October 2500 teachers and 65,000 students As you might recall, ReadyGEN started out as a collaboration between Pearson and the New York City Department of Ed with the goal of equipping all NYC public school teachers and students with the tools necessary to meet the new expectations of the Common Core. As part of our ongoing commitment to New York City, we will complete the ReadyGEN rollout with district-wide access to Realize starting in October. Approximately 2500 teachers and 65,000 students will use ReadyGEN this year.

Pasco County Schools Helping Students Reach their Highest Potential Develop lessons that align to district framework District-wide literacy adoption Currently being rolled out 1200 teachers and 35,000 students Pasco County Schools in Florida value what they call a “thinking” curriculum where teachers look to align lessons to their district’s framework which is built around KUDs, or what students Know, Understand, and are able to Do. The district chose to adopt ReadyGEN because they believed that the lessons reflect this type of “thinking” curriculum. ReadyGEN is currently being rolled out to approximately 1200 teachers and 35,000 students.

Pearson Connections

Words Their Way Features all materials needed to assist teachers to instruct in phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. Depth and breadth of word knowledge supports students in reading more complex texts Words Their Way helps students develop those foundational skills targeted in the Common Core standards. The program features all materials needed to assist teachers to instruct in phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. Words Their Way pairs nicely with ReadyGEN because the depth and breadth of word knowledge developed through the program’s approach to word study also supports the Common Core’s emphasis on students’ reading more complex literary and informational texts.

Language Central 30 minutes of daily systematic English language development (ELD) instruction Each Concept and Big Question pairs nicely with ReadyGEN’s Big Ideas Language Central provides students with 30 minutes of daily, systematic English language development. Each concepts and big question pairs nicely with the ReadyGEN Big Ideas, and similar to ReadyGEN, daily progress monitoring and scaffolded support helps teachers as much as students.

TECHNOLOGY STORY

Technology Responsively designed Device agnostic Access anytime, anywhere If you are not yet familiar with Realize – Pearson’s newest learning management system – it is responsively designed and device agnostic. Teachers can access their ReadyGEN resources and interactive tools from any device, anytime, anywhere.

MARKET Story Because ReadyGEN was built specifically for the Common Core standards, we will close with a look back at our instructional framework.

COMMON CORE… Maximize time on worthy texts. Build automaticity and stamina through: Close Reading Writing to Sources Develop teacher awareness of performance indicators through daily assessment opportunities. ReadyGEN was designed to deliver the Common Core instructional shifts in a familiar, balanced literacy framework. The program enables students to maximize time on worthy texts, it builds automaticity and stamina through close reading and writing to sources, and it develops teacher awareness through daily assessment opportunities. ReadyGEN elevates students and teachers to a whole new level.
