Introduction to the course and – pre Sept work A Level Art & Design Introduction to the course and – pre Sept work

What to do- before september starts You need to buy 1)A3 or A4 sketchbook (spiral bound, hard backed) 2)pens, pencils and paintbrushes. 3) Own SD card 4)variety of papers including tracing paper (for background) READ THE TASKS FIRST AND THEN COMPLETE IN ANY ORDER Art department- Ms Seadon (seadonn@ashlawn.org.uk) Take lots of your own photos or people, places and objects- create pages of them in your book DO ten pages of sketches using different media and combining media from your photos or magazine images. Research at least 5 artists who have studied the human form, produce artist pages from them and make a collage from them on one page Visit at least two galleries or exhibitions, make a page about your visit- include postcards, notes, sketches and thoughts etc.

Cont.. Brainstorm at least 3 themes including human form and people Your book should be 20 pages at least with these sections already Collect magazine pictures and leaflets which represent your favourite theme. Dedicate a page to at least 3 or 4 themes and do sketching based on these themes. Collect lots of images you can draw from in the first week- photos and images. This will be drawing media only. Your pages should show you experimenting with the media and writing notes beside it- practise blending colours as well as detailed pieces etc. Decide the layout of your sketchpad and cram each page, be as crazy and messy with the look of each page. Use materials and objects that are unusual. Use it as a diary!!!! You cannot do too much, the more you do of these tasks the more of an advantage you will have in September- the above list is the minimum

Examples of sketchbook layout and work

Your sketchbook is the task you will be doing for the first term in September so you need to understand how it works for you and begin now. Use the previous photos to help guide you. An example an A1 sheet of ‘sustained art work’- the best of the best you can do. This is what you will produce in the second and third term next year

Sheet pieces and sketchbook pieces. Photos to inspire Sheet pieces and sketchbook pieces.
