Presentation transcript:

Science Camp Volunteer Great Lakes Science Center, in downtown Cleveland, home to the NASA Glenn Visitor Center and the historic SS William G. Mather, is seeking dynamic individuals to help instruct Science Day Camp programs for children in grades K-12. This is an on-the-go, out-of-the box position that not only requires a working knowledge of STEM concepts, but excitement for informal education. Volunteers help lead the instruction, organize and facilitate camp sessions in a playful and educational manner. What you'll be doing: Develop an understanding of, and the ability to implement camp curriculum in a fun, interactive, hands-on environment while supplying accurate scientific information. Gain a deeper understanding of classroom management for multiple age groups. Manage a camp environment for participants’ well being; including not only safety, but also managing expectations of behavior from participants. Assist in set-up, clean-up, and storage of camp materials. Thoroughly understand the building safety and security manual and help implement emergency procedures when deemed necessary. Assist campers in their daily camp activities. Assist in other tasks assigned by Operations Specialist or Camps Manager. Qualifications: Passion for science and seeing children succeed. Able to follow directions and assist in facilitation of camp activities and operations. Experience working with children is preferred. Must be energized and excited to share the experience of science with children entering PreK-8th grades. Excellent verbal communication skills, a good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly on one’s feet necessary. Dates: Winter Break Camp-December 21-22, 27-29 and January 2-5. Spring Break Camp-March 26-29 and April 3-6. Contact us! Volunteer Services volulnteer@glsc.org 216-696-2358
