Today we are going to learn: Vocabulary of modern medicine How to support or concede an argument

Glossary: body parts lungs kidney liver heart cornea bone marrow stomach

Glossary: health problems ill health suffer inflammation symptoms discomfort renal failure heart attack allergic reaction the placebo effect side effects

Glossary: what do doctors do? diagnose prescribe treat cure test examine perform surgery

Answer the questions: 1. Have you ever had an allergic reaction to something? 2. What are the symptoms of a cold? 3. What are possible side effects of aspirine? 4. Have you ever experienced the placebo effect? 5. What do doctors do to diagnose diseases?

Alternative treatment: 1. The substance which causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people will cure these symptoms in sick people. It is diluted substantially to be used for treatment. 2. The points on skin are stimulated with thin needles. It originates from China and is usually used for pain relief.

Alternative treatment: 3. Pressure is applied with fingers to the certain areas of your feet that correspond to areas of the body. It brings about a change to the corresponding part of the body. 4. A person’s muscles and joints are moved, stretched and massaged to relieve pain.
