8th Grade ELA Mrs. Jolly 2016-2017

About Me This is my 19th year teaching I grew up in Iredell County I’m married and have 2 kids I also have 2 fur babies…both are black labs. I went to Appalachian State University I’m an Alabama football fan, a Tarheels fan, and a Panthers fan.

Class Materials: Composition Notebook 1” three-ring binder Loose Notebook paper Pens (blue or black ink) Charged Macbook Independent reading book

Routines & Lesson Plans Complete your bellwork as soon as you sit down for class. It is routine and the same each week. Bellwork sheets should be kept in your binder We will have weekly vocabulary lists and quizzes You are expected to read outside of class EVERYDAY Projects will be assigned each nine weeks You will have nightly homework Canvas and email should be checked regularly.

Rewards Daily sit with a friend at lunch coupons…these are earned by following the expectations and making good choices Daily tickets for drawings....these are earned by class participation and making good choices during lessons Quarterly grade level celebrations

Consequences Silent lunch…not following directions the first time, not following classroom norms, not completing assignments ASD...making bad choices, not completing assignments Bounced...disrupting class, refusing to cooperate, issues with other classmates Write up...when other consequences aren’t getting through, major offenses, being disrespectful to teachers or other students In ALL cases your parents/guardians will be contacted

Homework Study your weekly vocabulary words and word root Work on the project that’s been assigned for this nine weeks. Complete any classwork that you didn’t finish in class

Late Work Late work is not accepted in this class You must stick to deadlines.

Make-up Work Responsibility of the student to check in with me when returned to school for all make-up work. Work should be made up within 3 days of returning to school.

Assessment & Grading Grades will be a combination of projects, tests, quizzes, homework, classwork, and participation. Grades are weighted as follows: projects 30%, quizzes 30%, classwork/participation 25%, homework 15% Check Powerschool often for grades. I will try to enter grades daily. Request to retest…complete the form, conference with Jolly, retest will be scheduled Extra credit is offered on all tests and quizzes. There will not be extra assignments given for extra credit...you’ll have plenty of chances to show me what you’ve learned.

Restroom Use Everyone gets 3 bathroom “punches” for this class every 4 and ½ weeks You must take the classroom bathroom pass You may not go to the restroom while I’m giving instruction Appropriate times to go once you’ve gotten permission are: During independent work time Once bellwork has been started If you’re working in a small group and the task has been started
