Preachers in The Church. LESSON 11 Preachers in The Church. Do we need preachers in the church of Christ? From where do we get our preachers? Who makes preachers? Is it true that if you don’t come from Florida College, or from the Baxter Institute from Honduras, or from Abilene Christian College in Lubbock Texas you’re not a preacher? From where preachers comes from?

Romans 10:14 (NKJV) 14  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

The Preacher

Can anyone that just “grabs” a Bible say: Well, I'm a preacher now, I know how to read John 3:16. Are there “responsibilities” for the preacher? Is the preacher the “Pastor” of the church? Elder, Bishop and Shepherd = Elders of the church. The Pastor is not the preacher, unless this preacher fulfill the qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

MEANING Define the word “preacher.” Define the word “evangelist.”  A herald or messenger; in the N. T., one who proclaims the gospel. Define the word “evangelist.”  A bringer of good tidings (Acts 21:8). One of the sixth is making reference to what? Acts 6:1-6 right? Philip was both a Deacon and also an Evangelist of the church! Acts 21:8 (NKJV) 8  On the next day we who were Paul's companions departed and came to Caesarea, and entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? How is he to keep himself (1 Tim. 5:22)? 1 Timothy 5:22 (NKJV) 22  Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure.

He should strive to do what (Acts 24:16; 1 Tim. 1:5)? 1 Timothy 1:5 (NKJV) 5  Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, Acts 24:16 (NKJV) 16 This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and men.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? In what is he to be an example (1 Tim. 4:12)? 1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV) 12  Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? In all things what is he to show himself (Tit. 2:7)? Titus 2:7 (NKJV) 7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? How should his life and teaching harmonize (1 Tim. 4:16)? 1 Timothy 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? What of his soberness and hardships (2 Tim. 4:5)? 2 Timothy 4:5 (NKJV) 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? What of his relation to the things of this world (2 Tim. 2:4)? 2 Timothy 4:2 (NKJV) 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? What is he to suffer, if need be? How (2 Tim. 2:3)? 2 Timothy 2:3 (NKJV) 3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

HIS LIFE! Is the preacher’s life important or no? If the occasion demands, should he do manual labor (Acts 18:1-3)? Acts 18:1-3 (NKJV) 1 After these things Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth. 2 And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome); and he came to them. 3 So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers.

HIS PREPARATION! Is the preacher’s preparation important or no? To what shall he give heed (1 Tim. 4:13)? 1 Timothy 4:13 (NKJV) 13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

WHAT IS HE TO PREACH? Many Elders, Deacons and members do not know what the preacher should be preaching! What should be his attitude toward false teachers (1 Tim. 1:3-4)? 1 Timothy 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith.

What must be his attitude toward factious men (Tit. 3:10-11)? In General… Concerning the preacher’s personal appearance, how should it he regarded? How will his personal appearance add to or detract from his work and influence? What of his daily habits? Should he use tobacco—smoke or chew tobacco? Should he belong to the civic clubs, the ministerial Alliance, etc.? How should he balance his preaching and personal work (Acts 5:42)?
