Math Course Selection

What is AP Statistics An introductory course in statistics aimed at developing analytical and critical thinking skills You learn to describe data patterns and departures from patterns, plan and conduct studies, use probability and simulation to explore random phenomena, estimate population parameters, test hypotheses, and make statistical inferences. During chapters 1-4 you will think “Why on earth is this an AP course?” By chapter 5 you will understand why. Who should register for the course: 9th graders in Advance Algebra 2 with a 95% or higher 10th & 11th grade students who have completed an Algebra 2 course with a “B” or better It is an elective (must be taken concurrently with another math in 10th & 11th grade) may be taken alone as a senior Why should you take AP Statistics: Virtually every major in college requires at least one statistics course Because its nice to know if the information presented in ads and articles have valid claims Stat majors make lots of money

AP Calculus AB is a full year course in single-variable calculus that includes techniques and applications of the derivative, techniques and applications of the definite integral, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. It is equivalent to at least a semester of calculus at most colleges and universities, perhaps to a year of calculus at some. Algebraic, numerical, and graphical representations are emphasized throughout the course. Equivalent to one and a half semesters of college calculus Who should register for the course: 11th grade students who have completed Advanced Trig Calculus with a “B” or better Appropriate for all college majors Why should you take AP Calculus AB: Secure up to 4 credits of college calculus Prepare for the rigors of college courses Discover where much of the algebra you have learned is later used

AP Calculus BC Calculus BC is a full year course in single-variable calculus that includes all the topics of Calculus AB (techniques and applications of the derivative, techniques and applications of the definite integral, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus) plus additional topics in differential and integral calculus (including parametric, polar, and vector functions) and series. It is equivalent to at least a full year of calculus (2 semesters) at most colleges and universities. Who should register for the course: 11th grade students who have completed Advanced Trig Calculus with a “A” Appropriate for all college majors but mostly designed for those pursuing a Math or Science degree This course moves at a faster pace than AP Calculus AB, since it contains all of that material and more. Why should you take AP Calculus BC: Secure up to 8 credits of college calculus Prepare for the rigors of college courses Discover where much of the algebra you have learned is later used

College Algebra HACC on-line This course will be an extension of TPC at a more in-depth level. Who should take it: It is recommended for the college bound senior not planning to major in math or science. A 75% or higher is required to take this class A CLEP test can be taken at the end of the year to attempt college credit College Algebra HACC on-line This course will be an extension of TPC at a more in-depth level. Who should take it: It is recommended for the college bound senior not planning to major in math or science. An “A” in TPC or “B” in ATC should have been attained to take this class Passing this course earn college credit You must pass a placement test from HACC in order to be accepted into the class Anyone who does not pass the placement test will automatically be registered for College Algebra
