Presentation transcript:

Getting to know the people in our new class. Team work – everybody taking part. Good communication skills – including good listening and taking turns speaking. Write WILF in your book.

Warm up... You are going to play ‘The Line Game’. To do well in this game remember… You need to… Work in two teams of equal numbers. Your teacher will read out the instructions. The first team to finish correctly (no cheating – your teacher will be checking!) is the winning team! Instructions Line up in height order. Line up in alphabetical order of first names. Line up in alphabetical order of surnames. Line up in number order of the date of your birthday. Team work – everybody taking part. Good communication skills – including good listening and taking turns speaking.

Name bingo Each person in the class will have a ‘Name bingo’ sheet. To play ‘Name bingo’ you need to talk to all of the people in your class & find people in the class who have done the things on the ‘Name bingo’ sheet. When you have found somebody who does one of the things, write their name next to the thing that they do. You can only write a person’s name once on the sheet. Keep talking to people until you have found somebody for each thing – don’t just talk to people who you know, they won’t have done all of the things to complete your ‘Name bingo’ sheet, don’t be afraid to talk to new people who you may not have spoken to before  When you have got a name next to each of the things on the ‘Name Bingo’ sheet sit in your seat & shout ‘Bingo!’ – the first person to do this is the winner. Remember, to be successful… 2. Good communication skills – including good listening and taking turns speaking.

Our class' name bingo Who has done what in our class? What did you find out about each other? Has read any of the Harry Potter books Knows how to ski Wasn’t born in Wales Has been canoeing Plays for a football team Owns a cat Doesn’t like chocolate Has been to the cinema in the last week Supports Manchester United football club Has been camping Supports Liverpool FC Likes X Factor Can count to 10 in French Can play a musical instrument Can do martial arts Is a vegetarian Can ice skate Has never been on an aeroplane Has been to America Has met someone famous Has an unusual pet Is allergic to nuts Owns a dog Wears glasses Has dyed their hair Has been on steam train Has one brother and one sister

How well do we know each other? You need to work in groups of 4 people. Each person needs to: Write 3 things about themselves in their books – 2 of these things need to be true, 1 of these things needs to be false. Try to think of things that you don’t think people will know about you (but remember not to write anything really personal). When you’ve written your 3 things… Take it in turns to read your 3 things to your group – your group need to listen & then try to guess which thing you’ve said is not true. Remember, to be successful… Team work – everybody taking part. Good communication skills – including good listening and taking turns speaking.

Post-it Challenge At the start of the lesson we said… Getting to know the people in our new class. Team work – everybody taking part. Good communication skills – including good listening and taking turns speaking. How well have we achieved the WALT and WILF? How well have we got to know the people in our new class? You will be given a post-it note – on it you need to write something that you have learnt about a person in the group who you didn’t already know. Stick your completed post-it note to the board. Post-it Challenge
