Phase Changes A change from one state of matter (solid, liquid, gas) to another. Physical change because appearance is changed, not chemical make-up; reversible.

How can heat change materials?

Heat moves from to Hot body Cold body

Melt away : When heat is added to solid as ice : 1- the particles of the solid speed up . When the particles are moving fast enough the solid melts.

Melts = Is the change of matter from solid to liquid.

Evaporation : Is the change of matter from liquid to gas.

1- When heat is added to a liquid , the particles move faster 1- When heat is added to a liquid , the particles move faster . 2- if more heat is added , the particles will move fast enough to escape from the liquid .

When water evaporates it changes into water vapor.

Condensation : Is the change of matter from gas to liquid.

The particles of the water vapor near the leaves moved more slowly as they cooled . They come closer together and changed to liquid on the leaves.

Freezing : Is the change of matter from liquid to solid .

when liquid water loses heat energy, the particles of the water move slowly and the particles come near each other changing to solid.

Heat can help matter mix Hot water dissolves more sugar than cold water.

When egg is heated it changes forever.
