Mr. Poindexter’s Claim Claim: Evidence I think that Zion National Park is the best National Park to hike at. Evidence The park has many trails that vary in difficulty. The park is only a 2 ½ hour drive from Las Vegas. It is very close to many hotels. It has the Virgin River that runs through it. The Lodge has a large grassy area to relax in. Reasoning/ Rationale/ Warrant/ Justification The reason why my evidence allows me to make the claim that Zion National Park is the best National Park to hike at is depending on my mood, I can go on an easy hike or a really hard hike. Zion is also a great park because you can make it there and back in one day from Las Vegas or stay the night at one of the many hotels by the park. The park is also great for people who love nature because there is the Virgin River that goes through it and it has a great area to relax in by the lodge.

How will Mr. Poindexter grade my claims? Claims are statements that answer your original question. The claim is usually one sentence in length. It must be accurate, specific, and completely answer the question. How will Mr. Poindexter grade my claims? 0 points Does not make a claim 2 points Makes an inaccurate claim 3 points Makes an accurate but incomplete claim 4 points Makes an accurate and complete claim.

How will Mr. Poindexter grade my evidence? The evidence is all of the scientific data that supports your claim. You must have sufficient evidence, which must be related to your claim. Not all data is considered evidence! Evidence can be specific data from the investigation or information you collected from a source such as a reading or graph. How will Mr. Poindexter grade my evidence? 0 points Does not include evidence. 2 points Pprovides inappropriate evidence (evidence that does not support the claim) 3 points Provides appropriate but insufficient evidence to support claim. May include some inappropriate evidence. 4 points Provides appropriate and sufficient evidence to support the claim.

Reasoning (also Rationale/ Warrant/ Justification) Reasoning is the explanation that connects your claim to the evidence that supports it. You must provide sufficient reasoning to show why your evidence supports your claim. It is the explanation that connects your claim to the evidence that supports it. Detailed explanation for why the evidence led you to make the claim. Uses logic to tie evidence to the claim. Deep explanation of the science concepts Why does the evidence support your claim statement. Why did my experiment turn out the way it did. The scientific background knowledge that justifies why a multiple choice answer is the best answer.

How will Mr. Poindexter grade my reasoning? 0 points Does not include reasoning. 2 points Provides only inappropriate reasoning 3 points Provides reasoning that connects the evidence to the claim. May include some scientific principles or justification for why the evidence supports the claim, but not sufficient. 4 points Provides reasoning that connects the evidence to the claim. Includes appropriate and sufficient scientific principles to explain why the evidence supports the claim.

What does Vince want you to do? Why is Vince so convincing We will watch the video again. Write down all the evidence that Vince uses to convince you to buy Sham Wow.

What evidence did Vince give us? holds 20x its weight in liquid demonstrations - dried off the counter washable better for the environment $20 a month on paper towels change the size different/multiple uses 10 year warranty Made In Germany - Germans make good thing

What more could Vince do to convince you that you should buy Sham Wow? Let’s make Vince’s presentation even better and add the reasoning to his evidence.

Let’s make it better… Reasoning / Rationale/ Warrant/ Justification The reason why you should buy the Sham Wow towel is because it works so well because it contains micro fibers. Micro fiber towels are made from two synthetic (man made) materials, usually nylon and polyester. The fibers are treated with chemicals and mechanically changed to make them very small, smaller than 1/100th the diameter of a human hair. This gives the towel a lot of surface area to make contact with the spill and absorb the liquid. The tiny fibers get into small places where most towel fibers cannot reach. Let’s Practice Claim: What is the girl’s claim? Evidence: give at least three pieces of evidence.

My Dad’s An Alien Not working, try this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_Z0axs66M9kSmlWV3l6NVVYMDQ/view?usp=sharing

The Girl’s Evidence Dad speaks in a weird language Dad drinks green stuff Born in Albuquerque Dresses strangely Dad drives a spaceship

Reasoning Remember that reasoning is answering: Why does your evidence support this claim The reason why I know my dad is a space alien because the language that he speaks is not recognizable to humans, the way he gets nutrition and clothes himself is unlike other humans, and the vehicle he gets around in has abilities that no other car has. Based on the differences when comparing my father to humans the evidence shows he is an alien.
