Participants, Patents, and Duty to Inform All participants in this meeting have certain obligations under the IEEE-SA Patent Policy. Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed … do formally object. SCC20 Related SASB Activities Since our 10-2 Meeting (2 of 6) SCC20 Activities Report to IEC TC 93 I created an SCC20 Activities Report October 5, 2010. Dr. Karatsu presented the report to the IEC TC 93 plenary in Seattle, WA Sunday October 10, 2010. Dr. Karatsu reported back “I have made the SCC20 report at the WG7 meeting today and the report was well accepted.” Computer Society Above Activities Report was updated. SCC20 Related SASB Activities Since our 10-2 Meeting (3 of 6) New Model for the Maintenance of IEEE Standards For several years now, the IEEE Standards Board (SASB) has dealt with a number of issues/concerns related to maintenance activities, such as: Reaffirmation. Stabilization. Withdrawal. All Sponsors were asked on December 15, 2010 to respond to a proposed solution by February 28, 2011. SCC20 Related SASB Activities Since our 10-2 Meeting (4 of 6) Basically, the new model eliminates Reaffirmation, Stabilization and Withdrawal. Active Standards would be either 'Revised' or ‘Transferred to an Inactive Status‘. Standards would be subject to a periodic review by the sponsor every 10 years. 2011 Standards Actions (1 of 5) We have two standards that are due for 5-year maintenance action this year. Both of these are on the Wednesday Steering Committee meeting agenda. Standards are approved for five years and we are required to take a maintenance action by the end of that period. 2011 Standards Actions (2 of 5) If we choose to revise, reaffirm, or stabilize the standard but will not be able to complete the process by October, we will need to: Request an extension of the existing standard and Provide information about the actions that are being taken. 2011 Standards Actions (3 of 5) If there is no further interest in a standard: To be withdrawn, no ballot is required. The standard will be administratively withdrawn in December 2011. Please note that standards that have been administratively withdrawn can no longer be reinstated via reaffirmation.
