Chapter 7 Add music Raffles

Prize draws Small Society lottery: Must register with the Local Authority and supply information to the Local Authority for each prize draw held Registration fee £40, annual fee £20 Tickets must be printed and sold in advance of the event Proper records must be kept A prize draw is classed as a small society lottery. In order to run the draw you must register with the Local Authority and supply information for each prize draw held. A one off Registration fee of £40 is payable with an annual renewal fee of £20. In order for the event to be classed as a prize draw tickets must be printed and sold in advance and proper records must be kept. Don’t forget if there are alcoholic prizes in the Prize Draw this will require a Premises License which includes the sale of alcohol or a Temporary Events Notice (TEN) for the day of the draw

Raffles & Tombolas A raffle is an exempt lottery. This means: You do not require a license Prizes need to be capped at £500, expenses need to be capped at £100 Raffle tickets must only be sold at, or during, the event Winners must be announced at the event Tombolas have the same restrictions as raffles A raffle is an exempt lottery. This means: You do not require a license Prizes need to be capped at £500 and expenses for running the raffle is capped at £100 Raffle tickets must only be sold at or during the event Winners must be announced at the event An exempt lottery means that the proceeds are not for private gain and it is incidental to non-commercial events. Tombolas, where prizes are offered for drawing a matching number from a drum containing tickets, have the same restrictions as raffles.

200 clubs If the 200 club is open to the general public then it will be treated as a Small Society Lottery Where participation is restricted to members of a society, or the 200 club has its own constitution it can operate as a Private Society Lottery If you run a 200 club in your community building and it is open to the general public, then it will be treated as a Small Society Lottery. This will mean it will have to be registered for a license with the Local Authority and have the same restrictions as a Small Society Lottery. Where participation is restricted to members of a society or the 200 club has its own constitution it can operate as a Private Society Lottery. A Private Society Lottery has no limits on the ticket price, sales or where the proceeds go. No registration is required.

Bingo Bingo played in community buildings is classed as non-commercial No license is required to run bingo in community buildings Organisers must observe fair play Bingo played in village halls is classed as non-commercial No license is required to run bingo in community buildings In these circumstances bingo is seen as an incidental activity and none of the proceeds can go to private gain. However organisers must still observe the rules of fair play.
