Classroom Rules Be respectful and courteous to your teacher and peers. Bring all of your English materials to class each day. Assume responsibility for your actions and your assignments. Keep your desk and the surrounding area clean. NO food will be allowed in the classroom. Only use technology when permitted to do so.

Online Platforms

Pet Peeve: Cell Phones/Tablets/Headphones You may not use any technology unless I expressly give you permission to do so. Otherwise, I will take it up. Let’s try something new… Electronics should be one of two places. Out: On top of desk, face down Put away: In book bag, purse, or pocket NOT: Inside your desk, in your lap, hiding under books Headphones are to come off before entering the classroom. If you have them on in my classroom, I will take them up. You may charge your cell phones in the back of the classroom. The side plugs and the computer are off limits.

Three Strikes Policy Anytime the class as a whole is being loud and/or disrespectful, the class will receive a strike. Get three strikes?—You’re silent until the end of class, or until I tell you otherwise. Those who talk during a silent period will receive a detention.

Detention Policy Eating/having food out in class How to get detention: How does this work? Eating/having food out in class Talking during a silent day Excessive tardies Disrespectful behavior Sleeping You will have one week to serve your detention from the date given. If you do not serve the detention, then it will result in an office referral. Detentions are held every day after school. You may also serve detention before school, but by appointment only.

Tardy Policy BE ON TIME to class! This will help you avoid getting “locked out” The door will close when the late bell rings. If you are outside the door, you are late and will be marked as such. If you are late, you must sign the tardy log.

5 Bathroom Passes You will ONLY get 5 hall passes this semester.*  Manage your time between classes and use these passes wisely—don’t lose them. You will not be reissued bathroom passes for any reason. *Unless otherwise documented through Infinite Campus   Name: Destination: Date: Teacher Signature: I am missing an important educational opportunity in Mrs. Vessell’s class for this frivolous errand. 5

Absent/Make-Up Work Procedures It is YOUR responsibility to obtain your make-up work when you are absent. You have the number of days you were absent to make up your work for full credit. Quizzes and tests are made up after school. Please consult my teacher website for a list of what you missed (QR Codes for each unit). You may find any missed handouts on my teacher website or in the crates in the back of the room. AP Lang– Blue Crate Honors 11th Grade– Green Crate

Late Work Policy Students must submit assignments on time; however, I realize that accidents do happen. Late assignments must be submitted with the completed missing work log into your designated turn-in box. The logs are kept in the bottom drawer of the bin located on the front table. You are given more than enough time to work on essays and projects, these will not be accepted late. I will not grade late work without a form attached to it. You will receive partial credit for assignments submitted past the due date. I will grade late assignments AFTER assignments that were submitted on time.

English Binder Your English Binder will be EXTREMELY important this semester. STAY ORGANIZED! Open notebook quizzes will be approximately every 2-3 weeks. You need: A 3 ring binder With pocketed dividers Suggested dividers: Bellwork/Journals Classwork/Homework Notes/Handouts Graded Work

Usually, I’d do a quiz tomorrow, but we’re Honors and AP…
