Describing events and situations Simple verb forms –that are completed, factual, permanent, or repeated. Continuous verb forms - that are in progress or temporary. Extra’s … Verb + verb + ing: appreciate, avoid, complete, discuss, enjoy, practice, suggest. Verb+particle/preposition + verb + ing: give up, put off, talk about. Verb + to +verb: demand, hope, learn, plan, prepare, promise, refuse, wait. Verb + verb + ing/to(different meaning); forget, regret. Verb+verb + ing/to + verb(same meaning); can’t stand

Stop + verb + ing = not do the activity again. I stopped biting my nails. Stop + to + verb = stop an activity and begin another. I stopped to bite my nails. Try + verb + ing = experiment with something I tried making pizza Try + to + verb = an attempt at something.(usually failed) I tried to make pizza. Remember + verb + ing = think of something that happened before now. I remember calling my mum. Remember + to + verb = not forget to perform an action I remember to call my mum. Q.

P5 - exercise How did you end up studying here? My friend recommended this school. I remember thinking his English was good, so I decided to sign up for this class. How about you? A. Well, I wasn’t planning on learning English, but my company offered to pay for my classes. I agreed to come, and here I am! I want to keep on taking classes if I can. What are you thinking about doing next summer? Well, it depends. I just started working / to work at a new job, so I don’t expect to get much vacation time. I intend to take a couple of long weekends off, though. You have to stop working occasionally! Anyway, I love surfing / to surf, so I hope I can spend a long weekend visiting ...

Correction Techniques Who should correct mistakes? self correction peer (partner) correction teacher correction Principles Correct in a positive way. Remember learning a language is difficult and we need to support each other. Bonus - Enhance your listening skills by following what is said.   Remember IF you are making the same mistake over and over you need to say the whole sentence, maybe write it down and review the grammar.. Don’t over-do correction (fluency verse accuracy) Slow down and listen to yourself and others Make sure your partner and you understand that correcting each other isn’t confrontational but helpful.

Echo – say back (correctly) “did you say / mean .. ” Echo question. “I’m annoying” … “You’re annoying?”

We (agreed to) start dating other people but I can’t (imagine bumping) into her with her new beau... Oh so – you still have feelings for her? (expletive’s) Try to use words from the grammar to speak about the questions. (cross them off if you wish) / Use language from lesson A too … Remember to use correction techniques.
