Components Key Element: Conduct debriefing as a fact- finding exercise! Use as training for that track and future events Follow-up is conducted privately and professionally Anticipate hesitancy
Administrative Administrative Establish the meeting location – location must be “large” enough to accommodate all involved All track service workers attend Utilize “sign-in” log – compare to list of actual workers Minimize interference – no time constraints Eliminate media exposure No taping, but take notes
Facilitator Who should conduct? Suggested that a person “not directly” involved in the incident conduct the process… The key is to remain impartial The goal is to be fact-finding
Process Start with the initial “dispatch”.. What was transmitted, what did the track service team closest to the incident hear.. Did that prepare them? Initial units arriving.. What was observed, where did they park, what did they see…
Process Extrication – Take your time Who did what – condition of the belts, who cut them, how.. Identify who did what or observed “something” during the extrication process. What did they see if they were in supportive role… every detail accounted for… Until transported Other responding units… Account for Personnel Protective equipment
Conclusion of Process Did anyone hear anything? Anybody have anything to add? – Ensure everyone has an opportunity to speak Remain at debriefing.. You may get approached… Follow-up at a later date...
Training Use as a training tool… if the extrication truck indicates that there was an obstruction to their process --- allow the other units to hear that.. so they can react accordingly Take “that information” and incorporate into the respective training program
