ANTARCTIC DIGITAL DATABASE UPDATE SCAR, SCAGI meeting AUGUST 2016 Peter Fretwell, British Antarctic Survey

ADD remains a well used and important resource Primary repository and resource for Antarctic map data Data is vector based topographic data Over 10,000 downloads since reformatting the web interface in January 2016 BAS remains committed to developing the ADD

Change in the Web Browser 2014 2016 Improved look and feel – simpler, cleaner

Change in the Web Browser Simplified download options Open data – freely available Improved back-end services base on RAMADDA Rationalized some attribute fields

New data December 2014 – January 2016

Update August 2016 1. New up-to-date ice shelf coastline digitized from Sentinel 1 satellite radar data for most of East Antarctica

Automated rock outcrop from Landsat8 Almost fully automated method More accurate in most areas Some underestimation and a small amount of errors Additional layer to compliment traditional rock outcrop layer Talk on Monday in the Observing and Mapping Antarctica session

Future Updates PGC coastline – highly detailed high resolution coastline, some work needed to incorporate attributes Blue ice dataset BOADEM digital elevation model

INVITATION FOR MORE DATA The Future Regular Continent-wide coastline updates Protocol and incorporation of satellite derived datasets Data paper for ADD – easy referencing; citations for SCAR SCAGI product Publication of attribute schemas Version control (geogig) Possible use of cloud services INVITATION FOR MORE DATA
