What is narrative writing? (Continued) It has a beginning, middle, and end. It tells the order in which events take place. It is told from a particular point of view.

What is autobiographical writing? It tells the story of an event, period, or person in the writer’s life. By writing autobiographically, you can share part of your life with others.

What does an autobiographical writing include? The writer as a character in the story A lead, or opening paragraph, that catches a reader’s interest True events presented in clear, logical order A central conflict, or problem, that the writer or another person has to resolve

Types of Autobiographical Writing Autobiographical incidents, which are also called personal narratives, tell stories of specific events in your life Autobiographical narratives, or sketches, tell of periods or groups of events in your life. They include your thoughts and insights about the time. Reflective essays recount an experience and give your thoughts on its meaning. Memoirs are true stories of your relationship with a particular person, place, animal, or thing.

What is an autobiographical incident? It is a type of narrative writing, also called a personal narrative. It tells a story about an event in a person’s life. It is written from events in the person’s memory. It expresses the person’s thoughts and feelings.

Autobiography in Everyday Life Every day, you probably tell other people about events in your life. You might tell a friend about something funny your dog did. You might write a letter to a grandparent about a book you liked. In fact, a big part of life is the stories we tell of it. When you write autobiographically, you tell a story from your life. Developing strong autobiographical writing skills can help you share your life with others and enrich your own experience.
