Types of Conflict

Chapter 1 Going to the movies It's fun being young. My gang When I'm really scared.............. Trying not to cry We're all different, but we all get along. Week nights versus Weekends

Novel Questions Chapter One 1. Describe each of the characters and their relationship with one another. 2. Who are the socs? Who are the greasers? 3. How do Ponyboy's relationships with Darry and Sodapop differ? Explain. 4. Why is the 'gang' important to Johnny? 5. How does Ponyboy react to what Sodapop tells him about Darry? 6. Do you think Darry loves Ponyboy? Why does he treat Ponyboy the way he does? 7. What does Ponyboy mean on page 18 when he says, "I lie to myself all the time"? Do you ever lie to yourself? Why? Create a level ONE, a level TWO and a level THREE Question over chapter 1. Begin reading chapter 2.

Bell Ringer Point of view: The perspective from which a story is told. 1st Person POV: The narrator of the story is telling about the events and his/her feelings about them from his/her own perspective. Uses 1st person pronouns (I, me, my) 3rd Person Limited POV: The narrator tells about events happening in the story from an OUTSIDE perspective, but is limited to telling about the main characters inner feelings. (He, she, it) 3rd Person Omniscient POV: The narrator tells the story from an OUTSIDE perspective and can give insight to any character’s inner workings. Narrator knows ALL. (He, she, it) Narrator: The person that is telling the story; can be directly involved in the story or can be an outside observer.

At the hospital Ponyboy realizes that Darry really cares for him. Why has Darry been so hard on Ponyboy in the past?
