Designing the Future Classroom Will Ellis, iTEC Project Manager, European Schoolnet. Designing the Future Classroom

Innovative Technologies for an Engaging Classroom “With 27 project partners, including 14 Ministries of Education, iTEC will provide a model describing how the deployment of technology in support of innovative teaching and learning activities can move beyond small scale pilots and become embedded in all Europe’s schools.”

“As for the future, your task is not to foresee it but to enable it.” The future classroom: Visionaries vs pragmatists Which of these statements is most likely? Schools will be abolished in the next 10 years and formal learning will be replaced by technology assisted informal learning. Schools will revert to traditional teaching methods with the reintroduction of blackboards and textbooks and significantly reduced spending on technology. Schools will be much the same as they are now. “As for the future, your task is not to foresee it but to enable it.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The iTEC Approach Create scenarios that support advanced pedagogical approaches and derive activities from them. Pilot and evaluate to confirm they promote positive innovation. Provide technology to support this change. Provide support and training to enable development of necessary competencies. Identify how the scenarios can be used to provide large scale educational reform. Education reform policy and strategy
