ARCH & THE SWANSEA BAY CITY DEAL Steven Phillips, Secretary Swansea Bay City Region Board @C4B_ABM #C4B #DIGITAL

What is a City deal? A bespoke, trilateral arrangement between the UK and Welsh Governments and the Swansea Bay City Region Worth circa £500 million over 20 years Designed to dramatically improve economic performance (with allied economic and social benefits) by 2035. Reaching 90% of UK productivity levels @C4B_ABM #C4B #DIGITAL

Partners/Coverage Chaired by Sir Terry Matthews Partners include: Universities (Swansea and Trinity St David’s) Health Boards (ABMU and Hywel Dda) Private Sector Local authorities Area covers Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot (but not hung up on administrative boundaries)

What is the link with ARCH? The “Internet Coast” City Deal bid submitted in February is all about applying broadband capacity and digital technology to achieve these goals. It identified three core strands: The Internet of Energy The Internet of Economic Acceleration The Internet of Health and Wellbeing Plus other initiatives including skills and regeneration of Swansea City Centre Focus today is on the middle two @C4B_ABM #C4B #DIGITAL

It promises to deliver the fastest capacity yet – anywhere; Internet of Economic Acceleration based on a new transatlantic cable expected to make landfall in Oxwich Bay in 2018 – in the order of 145 terabytes; It promises to deliver the fastest capacity yet – anywhere; Unlike the LNG pipeline, we want this to benefit the region not just pass through it taking advantage of our position between London and New York; Our digital strategies mean nothing if we don’t have the capacity. This is our opportunity to make a reality of dealing in with rising demand, rapid diagnosis, integrated clinical networks and the challenge of delivering healthcare in rural areas in particular. @C4B_ABM #C4B #DIGITAL

Progress so far Intensive discussions with Governments ongoing Objective of finalising Stage 1 of City Deal by Autumn Our proposition is very different so needs to be clearly articulated in terms of the “ask” Other linked projects moving ahead e,g. Wellness Centre at Llanelli Dynamics changed recently (i.e. Steel)

Governance Work in progress ARCH & City Deal overlap/clear synergies City Region Board does not really care if this Health & well being strand becomes part of ARCH or vice-versa Delivery is all

Thank you @C4B_ABM #C4B #DIGITAL
