Pedestrians In The Warehouse/Production areas What is workplace transport? Why is it important? How do you stay safe? Summary Questionnaire Hazard identification

What Is Workplace Transport? Workplace transport is the movement of people and vehicles within the same area.

Why Is It Important? HSE Statistics Over the past two years there have been 115 fatal injuries to workers as a result of workplace transport accidents. HGV’s Forklift Trucks and wheeled tractors are the most commonly cited agents in fatal accidents Forklift trucks account for approximately one quarter of all workplace transport major injuries to employees

people being hit by vehicles people falling from vehicles Why Is It Important? The most common vehicle accidents in the work place are:- people being hit by vehicles people falling from vehicles objects falling from vehicles on to people vehicles toppling over

Stay Safe Walk at a reasonable pace – NEVER RUN. Look and listen for truck movements around you. Walk on pedestrian –only routes where available. 23 Near misses in two months Avoid causing obstructions in walkways. Cross truck routes only after checking it is safe to do so, using zebra crossings and viewing aids (e.g. mirrors) where provided. When using shared pedestrian and truck routes give trucks a wide berth if possible

Stay Safe Ensure that the driver is aware of your presence before approaching a truck Report to you local manager any area where you consider there is a particular risk to pedestrians Report any unsafe acts or near misses involving trucks (i.e. excessive speed, failure to sound horn at junctions, travelling with forks raised) YOU MUST NOT use a mobile phone whilst walking in a truck area

What Is The Problem Here???

Summary In order to stay safe we must ensure that we understand the hazards associated with movement of people and vehicles in the workplace. A warehouse can be a hazardous place to work but if we all follow these simple guidelines then we can avoid any accidents/injuries.
