The Step by Step Charging Techniques Proper Charging Techniques are Vital to the Proper Operation, Safe, and Trouble Free System

Always Remember, Safety is #1 and Everyone’s Business!

Use Safety Equipment

Remove Jewelry

Lift and Move Correctly

High voltage is always dangerous. Electric Shock BE CAREFUL! High voltage is always dangerous. Even 40 volts can be lethal if skin is wet or damaged.

When To Add or When To Remove?

Step by Step Procedure for Proper Subcooling Method Connect refrigerant manifold set to HVAC equipment. Attach & insulate an electronic thermometer to the liquid line near the service access port. Run the equipment for 30 minutes to allow the system pressures and temperatures to stabilize. Measure and record the liquid line temperature. Monitor and record the liquid line pressure using the gauge manifold set. Review the subcooling temperature located on the equipments nameplate.

Step by Step Procedure for Proper Subcooling Method 6. Convert the liquid line pressure gauge reading to the correct saturated condensing temperature (review with PT chart). 7. Record the saturated temperature and liquid line temperature. 8. Then subtract your liquid line temperature from your saturation temperature to calculate subcooling. SATURATION TEMPERATURE LIQUID LINE TEMPERATURE SUBCOOLING

Where Do I Connect Up To For Suction Gas Superheat?

How Close Is Close on Charging?

How To Figure Suction Gas Superheat *Note: Stabilize and run the system for at least 15 minutes

Our Example Continued

When To Add Or When To Remove?

Step by Step Procedure for Proper Superheat Method Connect refrigerant manifold set to HVAC equipment. Attach & insulate an electronic thermometer to the suction line near the service access port. Run the equipment for 30 minutes to allow the system pressures and temperatures to stabilize. Measure and record the suction line temperature. Monitor and record the suction line pressure using the gauge manifold set.

Step by Step Procedure for Proper Subcooling Method 5. Convert the suction line pressure gauge reading to the correct saturated suction temperature (review with PT chart). 7. Record the saturated temperature and suction line temperature. 8. Then subtract your liquid line temperature from your saturation temperature to calculate superheat. SATURATION TEMPERATURE SUCTION LINE TEMPERATURE SUPERHEAT

Can Discharge Gas Superheat Be Used For A Charging Method? NO, However…..

Discharge Gas Superheat Can Be Used As A Check Method Use It As A Tool Discharge Gas Superheat Can Be Used As A Check Method

Here’s How To Do It Place your temperature probe onto the discharge line of the compressor Take a discharge pressure reading Convert your discharge pressure reading to temperature with your PT chart Subtract the two and be within a range of 50 degrees to 90 degrees

What Is Superheat? It’s the temperature above the saturation temperature of the vapor in the system.

What Is Subcooling? It’s the temperature below the saturation temperature of the liquid in the system.

A Good Rule of Thumb The amount of refrigerant quantity is related to subcooling. The performance of the system is related to suction gas superheat. Check both; subcooling & suction gas superheat.
