Election of 1960 Crisis Overview

What is a Crisis Committee? Crisis Committees often handle short-term issues with swift and decisive measures. Crisis Committees often deal with issues like wars, revolutions, disaster control, or economic collapse. They are dynamic: delegates can communicate with Crisis and other delegates and influence the direction of the committee. Often there will be “Crisis Events” where the Crisis staff (referred to as just Crisis) will put forth a new situation for the delegates to react to.

How to Prepare RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read the Background Guide Know the committee and topic Know your role – Crisis will only let you do realistic things

How a Crisis Committee Runs Debate – Moderated and Unmoderated (Semi-Mod on occasion) Personal Directives - informal declarations of the actions you are taking behind the scenes in your committee, not addressed to crisis Group Directives – formal, must be voted on Press Releases – must be voted on, informs the rest of the world (the other committee) what actions your committee has made or your stance on a certain issue Action Orders – notes addressed to Crisis, influence Crisis events Joint Action Orders – addressed to Crisis, involves multiple delegates (at least 2) Passing notes – address to another delegate(s) either in your committee or the other

Next Meeting Roles will be finalized today (no later than next meeting) You will receive your portfolio powers We will go more in depth about certain aspects of crisis We will show examples/give demos so you know exactly what to do
