Kenya’s INDC: Sector Meetings 23rd May 2016 StARCK+ Technical Assistance Component

Sector Meetings Agreed by INDC Task Force at meeting in Machakos in March that sector expert groups will examine the INDC and its underlying analysis “Unpack” the INDC numbers, update with any other available data and information, and assess what is doable and achievable, and to prioritize actions and sectors. Seven sectors: Energy, Transport, Forestry, Agriculture, Industry, Waste Management and Health, Vulnerability and Resilience Led by MENR&RDA, working with sector ministries

Sector Meetings Goal: to clarify how Kenya will achieve its INDC, including adaptation goals and the 30% GHG emission reduction target. The expected outcomes of the work are: Deepen understanding of the implications of Kenya’s INDC for priority sectors, in particular energy, agriculture, transport, industry, forestry and waste management; Improve understanding amongst government officials and stakeholders of the options and efforts required to achieve the INDC goal; and Identify key pillars in the said sectors that would transition Kenya into a low carbon and climate resilient development pathway (adaptation and mitigation), climate proof the the Third Medium Term Plan (2018-2023) and the subsequent climate change action planning process. Assist in priority setting of mitigation and adaptation actions that would increase the country’s ability to adapt to threats of climate and foster climate resilience. Contribute to the development of an NDC Implementation Plan and appropriate measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) framework that is closely linked to the National Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
