Portability vs. Mobility Portability solutions are enabled for mobile devices but typically provide a desktop paradigm user experience. Mobility solutions are designed to provide simplified workflows and processes that are fit for purpose and contextually relevant for a mobile device.

Connections - Primary Forms Fit for Purpose Connected Generic - browser based business functions which can be delivered and consumed within an Basic Generic Browser  Connected Business Productivity –UI5 content delivered via portal (SAP Fiori). Supports dynamic generation based on the device form factor (laptop / tablet / mobile phone) and device orientation.  Connected Mobile – Targeted applications, installed on device, no business data without a connection. Applications utilise device capability - camera, GPS , gyroscope, Bluetooth..  Disconnected Mobile – Connected Model plus device resident data (preloaded or capture on the go). Applications can operate for a period of time without connectivity, then synchronise with core system .

Business System Requirements Must use SAP as the single source of the truth. Must use readily available commercial hardware. Hardware must interact with multiple vendor products. Must have expandable application development capability. Must have mobile capability within logistics area of operations. Must support GS-1 standards. Must support UHF RFID standards.

AIT GS-1 code 128 and GS-1 Data matrix for barcodes. Code 128 linear barcodes for stand-alone scanning capability when SAP unavailable. UHF Gen2, US Freq passive RFID tags for Assets. Multiple tag types depending on material construction. UHF Gen 2, US Freq passive RFID tags with near field antennas for ID cards. Apple IPad Air2 tablets. ZEBRA RFD8500 scanners. Fixed scanners using TIMES7 antennas and Impinj speedway readers. Portable fixed readers using TIMES7 antennas and Thinkify readers Experimenting with integrated antennas with built in readers.
