Unit 4 – p. 68 SEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS RULES: A verb + a particle can stay together or be separated Particles: up, off, over, out, away, back, in, down, on, together, into. If the object is a NOUN, it may come after the phrasal verb. (verb + particle) You have to do over this paint job. They call off this afternoon’s class. 2. If the object is a NOUN, it may separate the phrasal verb. (noun) You have to do this paint job over. They call this afternoon’s class off 3. Unit 4–p.68 INSEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS or NONSEPARABLE RULES: It is a verb + a particle. (ALWAYS TOGETHER) Particles: on, for, off, through, over, after, into, with, across Example: The teacher called on students in the back row. Unit 4 – p. 74 NEGATIVE, YES/NO QUESTIONS RULES: To check the information that you think is true. Use short answers, with yes or not. Start the questions. Use the negative form of BE: aren’t, isn’t. Use the negative form of auxiliary verbs like: don’t, didn’t, haven’t, hasn’t, can’t, won’t, shouldn’t. Use contractions. Example: Aren’t the uniforms ready? Yes, they are. The teacher asked us to open the books. verb object infinitive (indirect request) NOTE: most verbs have an object, however the verb says does not. The teacher said to open the books.
