Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) Reduction Spread

Interventions so far Indication documentation required for Foley in the EMR bases on modified HOUDINI Presentations and education delivered at Education council every month since November Rewards to those removing catheters since mid-December (162 so far) CBT launched March

CAUTI audits-meet HOUDINI? July–February 2014: CAUTIs (n=32) Did not meet HOUDINI 37.5% overall did not meet HOUDINI criteria 57% floors (4/7) 32% ICU (8/25) 91% of all infections were identified at ≥5 catheter days

ICU & PCU Foley FY14 Utilization 3/6 units at 25th percentile goal =BICU, CICU, NSICU

Inpatient Unit Foley FY14 Utilization 2/9 units at Goal of 25th percentile = WCH 4C and Neuroscience Floor

WCH PICU utilization Unit at Goal of 25th percentile = PICU

Next steps I&O catheterization and bladder scan protocol needs to be developed Nurse driven protocol to discontinue without orders Doctor’s orders ( indication) New collection device for specimens with preservative Foley orders
