Virginia Garcia Memorial Foundation Highlights from FY16-17 and a Preview of FY17-18

Fundraising We raised $3,155,406 last fiscal year. Our goal is to raise $4,733,470 this fiscal year. Important note: we are consistently increasing non-capital fundraising. We raised $2.5M last fiscal year and this year we plan to raise $2.98M. That’s a 19% increase over last year and a 53% increase over 5 years.

Individual Giving Restricted, Unrestricted and Capital Combined Goal – Raise $433,000 from individuals. Actually raised - $601,949 (40% above goal!). Our goal was to add 25 new Friends level donors, instead Beckie led the effort to find 52 new major donors. We had a total of 122 Friends Level donors last year; up from 58 in FY 13-14 Graphic from the National Network for Oral Health Access

Corporate Giving We set out to raise $209,500 in combined Corporate contributions last year – instead we raised $248,015, that’s an 18% increase over our goal. In the last three years, we’ve grown sponsorships to fully support four annual events and developed an important long-term partner in Nike. Santiago Owen born April 23, 2017 7lbs 12oz She did all of this while preparing to give birth to her first child!

Foundations and Government Grants The Foundation Relations and Grants Team had highs and lows this past year. They raised $1.96 million in 86 Foundation grants for the Health Center, achieving 96% of their goal and secured an additional $10.14 million in Federal grants! On the lower side, the team came in at only 56 percent of their capital goal ($652,890) due in part to a delayed capital budget. We do expect to see success in capital grants this year as we ended the year with $608,000 in requests pending. The team worked hard to cultivate new foundation donors, finding 105 new donor prospects over the course of the year. We’ve invested in this team, they are ramping up and we look forward to seeing their success continue to grow.

Public Relations This past year was less about earned media and more about social media – Kasi generated lots of buzz: Our goal was to increase newsletter subscribers to 1,000. Instead, we reached 4,020 folks this year – that’s 402% of goal! We reached 167,712 Facebook users, 168% of goal. Our Twitter results were particularly impressive, reaching 245% of goal with 147,099 impressions on a goal of 60,000. She hit the ground running in July last year, barely weeks before Grape – she hasn’t slowed down since. She’s great at getting us highly regarded posts on Twitter and Facebook. She had a ton of efforts to promote – our events, year-end giving with the Give!Guide campaign, post-election impacts and even the weather showed up as a hot topic. Be on the lookout for her LIVE Facebook posts…she might make you a subject next!

Grape Adventure 2016 Goal: 125 guests Actual: 150 guests Goal: $84,750 in net revenue Actual:$87,088 in net revenue! Auction revenues were down and we didn’t hit our sponsorship or ticket targets. There’s still room for improvement this year!

Created and established new annual Fall event! Goal was to raise $117,282 in net revenue. Instead, we raised $168,298! This was more net revenue than we raised for the 40th Anniversary Gala last year ($152,103) and an increase of over 300% from the $37,381 we raised at our 2013 Ambassadors of Hope event. Thanks to Michele Hildrum’s board leadership, the event was held in Nike’s very unique and lovely Tiger Wood’s event space.

The year ahead… Our goal is to raise $13.3M for the health center in the coming year, $4.73M of which will flow through the Foundation. We have three major strategic initiatives: Leverage the new clinics to advance Virginia Garcia’s mission; Collaborate with the health center to develop an organization-wide advocacy program; and, Support stability at Virginia Garcia.

Thank you! We are grateful for your leadership and support. We will continue to rely on you to meet these ambitious goals and to broaden and deepen support in our community for Virginia Garcia and our patients.
