Separation and Purification of Organic Compounds Get pure organic compounds Methods Separation and Purification are: 1- solution and filtration. 2- Extraction 3- crystallization 4- Sublimation 5- Distillation 6- Chromatographic

Solution and filtration Solubility of organic compounds can be divided: 1- solubility in which the chemical reaction such as acid-base reactions, used to identify the functional groups. Benzoic acid + NaOH sodium benzoate (water insoluble) (water soluble) 2- solubility in which only simple miscibility such as ethyl ether in carbon CCl4, used to determine solvent in recrystallization -Filtration used to separate the solid product(precipitate) ,remove of insoluble impurities, reactant materials - The desired soluble comp. get from filtrate by evaporation the solvent
