Top 5 Whines About Mrs. Dean OR How to Interpret what your child says.

MRS. DEAN IS SO MEAN! She really did check homework and give a grade.

MRS. DEAN GAVE ME DETENTION TOMORROW FOR THROWING SOME TRASH IN THE TRASH CAN. I tried to make a bank shot off Joe’s back and she caught me.

MRS. DEAN GIVES UNREASONABLE LAST MINUTE HOMEWORK! I didn’t do my homework for today, so now I’m behind. I didn’t do my reading for today, so now I have to finish my class work on my own. If I don’t make you come to my rescue, you’ll tell me I can’t go to my friend’s house and stay till 9 PM.

MRS. DEAN IS CONFUSING. I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT! I didn’t listen in class, read the assignment board, read the instruction sheet, look at the assignment calendar, check Moodle, or ask her or another student who keeps up with assignments.

MRS. DEAN IS WEIRD. SHE MADE ME EAT LUNCH WITH HER. I hurt someone with a putdown, and she cared enough to schedule time with me to talk about “stuff.”

My Greatest Requests of You Are… Let your child struggle, learn, and grow. They’ll learn that you trust them to deal with the consequences of their behavior—a great lesson before the challenges of high school. They’ll also learn that they really can accomplish everything that they need to do on their own without being rescued. Constant rescue only means “I don’t think you can really do this.”

My Greatest Requests of You Are… Always encourage your child to read and let them see you enjoy reading. Reading is the single best thing your child can do to improve reading skills, learning from a text, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, comprehension, critical thinking, writing skills, SAT scores, ACT scores, and on and on….
