Principles of Navy Leadership Petty Officer First Class Selectee Leadership Course

ENABLING OBJECTIVES STATE the Navy’s definition of a Petty Officer First Class (PO1). DEFINE the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy’s (MCPON) expectations of a Petty Officer First Class.

Main Topics The expectations of a PO1 and the concepts of responsibility, accountability, and authority (RAA) as they apply to the PO1. The elements of professionalism that work in accordance with the Navy Core Values. Command climate, the various elements that affect command climate, and the actions a PO1 must take to foster a positive command.

Expectations of a PO1 “Always remember to serve with the CNO's four core attributes in mind: integrity, accountability, initiative, and toughness”. As a First Class Petty Officer, the Navy has an expectation that you are a leader and to live by the Navy's core values. (Giordano, 2017)

I will commit to positive change and constant improvement. HONOR I will take responsibility for my actions and keep my word. Honor allows me to put others before myself and helps me know my responsibility. COURAGE I have the courage/guts to make decisions and act in the best interest of the Department of the Navy; I will overcome all challenges while adhering to the highest standards of personal conduct and decency. COMMITMENT I will commit to positive change and constant improvement. Courage- I have the courage/guts to make decisions and act in the best interest of the Department of the Navy; I will overcome all challenges while adhering to the highest standards of personal conduct and decency. Honor taking responsibility for our actions and keeping our word; Honor allows you to put others before yourself and knowing your responsibility.
