Intro to Data Management: A Picture is worth a Thousand Words

A Picture is worth A thousand Words- Part 1 Independently, read over the handout and answer the questions on the right Make sure you circle the information that is most useful for answering each question Answer the reflection on the bottom of the page (fully explain your thinking) Once finished the reflection, share your response with your group

A Picture is worth A thousand Words- Part 2 Cut and arrange the graphs to match the tables, then paste (in an organized manner) onto a sheet of lined paper In each case, explain how you knew that the 2 items were a match. *Note: one table has been displayed in 2 different graphical formats. Determine which table this is. Complete steps 1-4, and then circle the graph that is the most appropriate representation of the data. Justify your reasoning

A Picture is worth A thousand Words- Part 2 State the type of graph Add any missing information directly onto the graph (titles, labels, etc.) Draw 2 relevant conclusions about each group of data

A Picture is worth A thousand Words- Part 2 Answers Table 1 goes with Graph D (Scatter Plot) – add a title, label the x-axis ‘Age’ and label the y-axis ‘Distance Completed’ in km Table 2 goes with Graph E (Double Bar Graph) – add a title, label the x- axis ‘Instrument’ and label the y-axis ‘Frequency or # of Students’ Table 3 goes with Graph B (Circle Graph) –add a title and and label the percentages in each sector

A Picture is worth A thousand Words- Part 2 Answers Table 4 goes with Graph A (Bar Graph) and Graph C (Broken-Line Graph) –add a title to both graphs, label the x-axis ‘January’ and label the y-axis ‘Temperature’ in ° C *Circle Graph C as the most appropriate format to display this data as it shows a change in temperature over a period of time.

Task: Real-Life Graph Example Find a a graph in some form of media and include the following information: Type of graph Explanation of the data displayed in the graph Two relevant conclusions Why the type of graph was chosen to display the data
