Recap: What you learn through PDP Acquire and develop valuable transferable skills, inc.: - presentation skills - communication skills - team work - research - analysis Improve the standard and confidence of your spoken and written English

How to succeed with PDP Attend the lectures Read any notes or handouts Make sure you follow carefully the rules of the task Rules apply to EVERYONE Understand what is being assessed in this task Submit work in good time Check the work has uploaded successfully to the server

Is PDP important? Yes! If your future success is important to you PDP marks appear on your QM degree transcript PDP marks contribute to your final mark You must have a PDP mark each year or you will not be able to graduate

Assignment Summary Produce an advertisement video for a Chinese product or aspect of Chinese culture, for a UK audience. Produce a presentation to support your advertisement Deadline Wednesday 19th March, 5pm China time

Three parts to the assessment class Show your advertisement Give a short presentation about your advertisement Respond to questions and comments from QM staff and your classmates, about your advertisement and presentation

Class Themes Two classes per theme (see next slide) Coordinate between the two classes – no duplication of topics

Advertisement Think about your chosen topic from a UK point of view: what are its key features, benefits, attractions or interest? what does a UK audience need to know to understand these key features? how can you tell us these things in a persuasive and enticing way?

Presentation Why did you do what you did? How did you do it? Who did what?

Time limits Advertisement: 60 seconds maximum Presentation: 3 minutes maximum

File formats and names Video file Name it “classXXgroupXXtopic.wmv” File size <= 10M Make sure that your file can be played on any Windows computer, without using extra software Presentation slides Name it “classXXgroupXX.ppt” Save it as a ‘ppt’ NOT ‘pptx’ file Class1Group1_kite.wmv Class1Group1_kite.wmv Class1Group1_kite.ppt

File submission Each group submit to your advertisement and presentation to your Class Coordinator Class coordinator to submit USB stick to QM administrator Maggie Li with files by 19 March Class coordinator should bring a copy of this USB stick to the assessment class Each groups should bring a copy of their advertisement and presentation to the class on a USB stick

Tips Keep to the time limits You don’t have to use the full 60 seconds for the advertisement if your message takes less time Remember what you learned last semester about presentation slides: clear, attractive, simple, accurate Remember what you learned last semester about delivering a presentation: avoid notes, speak clearly, make eye contact

Marking criteria and questions 2/3 3. Slides How well did the slides extend and add to the video? Considerations may include, but are not limited to: making clear the contribution of all group members; discussion of the process of making the advertisement; additional information about the product.

Marking criteria and questions 3/3 4. Quality of presentation How well was the presentation delivered? Considerations include, but are not limited to: quality of English, eye contact with the audience, body language. 5. Responding to questions How well did the group respond to the questions asked by the QM assessor and other students?
