Clinton and health care But Hillary’s health care reform bill never got voted on and failed to get passed.

Contract with America In 1994, the Republicans, led by Newt Gingrich, proposed the Contract with America, outlining actions they promised to take if they became the majority party in the House of Representatives.

Contract with America Republicans created a program that called for: Term limits for committee chairmen A three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase All laws apply equally to Congressmen Require committee meetings to be open to public

Contract with America The Contract with America led to the Republicans gaining control of the House of Representatives following the 1994 mid-term elections. Gingrich was chosen to be Speaker of the House.

War in the Balkans In the ’90s, war broke out in the former Yugoslavia between Bosnians, Serbs, and Croatians in a region of Europe known as the Balkans.
